I took first and Best of Show for the middle school division at the 2010 Tri Kappa Art Show.

I have had drawings entered in this show since the fourth grade, excluding seventh grade when I didn't have an art class. Each year all of my entries would place, but I was always hoping to win Best of Show.

It's a thrill to see my drawing in front with the ribbon saying "Best of Show".

I enjoyed seeing the reactions of everyone who saw my work. Some thought it was a black and white photo when they walked in, others wanted to know my techniques. It was an amazing experience for me.

I have had a 'passion' for art since the age of two, when I was first introduced to pencils, pens, and crayons. I was never a child to draw on the walls; a piece of scrap paper could keep me occupied for hours.

I started showing potential in my early years of elementary school. My subjects then were usually horses. During my last three years of elementary, I began drawing people. I still am.

I am now a junior at Mooresville High School in Mooresville, Indiana.

I don't know why I draw. Sometimes I am inspired by something and I know what I have to do. Some people are inspired to be athletes. Some are inspired to be writers or photographers. Maybe I'm inspired to be an artist.

I do not plan on making art my career. Drawing is a hobby of mine; it's relaxing. I would hate to ruin that by becoming a full time artist.

My drawings are usually black and white. I use graphite and carbon pencils on heavyweight paper, sprayed with a matte finish for protection. I have just started experimenting with color and other mediums.
